Description

Unusually large painting of a Dutch farm scene in oil on canvas after the Belgian artist Evariste Carpentier. 42" x 39" canvas. Study of a traditionally dressed Dutch farm woman using a fork (with rounded tips to the tines) to lift turnips outs of a wash. With ducks, chickens, farm buildings and landscape in the background. A slightly cropped copy of the 1890 painting 'Washing Turnips' by Evariste Carpentier (1845-1922), the original features second figure to left hand side of the canvas. Very well painted with confident brushwork in thick paint. Large signature in the lower left hand corner. Presented in the original broad oak frame with gilded inner edge. Some minor damage to the edge of the frame, otherwise excellent condition.
