Alfred Vickers senior 1786-1868 British landscape and coastal painter. Royal Academy, British Institute and Society of British Artists. Oil on board c1820. Working during the first half of the 19th century Vickers’ sketchy style gives the impression of rapid spontaneity which can be seen in this example. The use of light and shade in this painting give it a focal point. Your eye is drawn to the pop of red on the mans waistcoat as he sneaks up on the almost hidden encampment. The painting is in very good original condition and is housed in a complimentary gilt and pierced frame. Measurements including frame 48 x 56 x 7
