Description

One of the specialities of my gallery are painters from "Monet country": the banks of the Seine in the part of Normandy which is closest to Paris where Giverny is located. Its beautiful landscape was an inspiration for both the French Impressionists and their British and American counterparts. Here is a gorgeous painting by a - sadly unidentified - member of this loose group of artists.

In the painting, we see islets in the mist, with all the magic of nature on a misty day. Painted with loose, impressionist brushstrokes, the painting focusses on the essential, the experience of the scene.

Dating from the 1930s or early 1940s, our oil on canvas has a trace of signature at the lower right, which is sadly indistinct. Measuring 46 x 55 cm, it is presented in its original frame. The overall framed size is 55 x 63 cm.
