London painter of Marine and Coastal scenes who lived in Greenwich and for many years had a studio

overlooking the Medway. He painted under the pseudonym WA Thornberry, W Anson as well as his exhibiting name 'Charles Thornley'. Under this mantle he exhibited 53 times at the Royal Academy.

This charming picture of St. Michaels Mount show s his attention to detail which makes it so desirable.
