A fine and decorative oil on artist board by Dorothy C Cox. The painting shows the interior of an artist studio with a still life arrangement to the fore and various items around it. Thus studio is full of items that would be used for sketching purposes including a stuffed falcon and plaster copy of the Nike of Samothrace. The painting is an interesting premise that was supposed to focus on the still life set up but expand out into the whole room. The quality of the work is very good and captures brilliantly the different textures and colours. The painting has been professionally cleaned and is in excellent condition. The work is signed to the lower right and on the reverse retains the exhibition label for 1945 where the piece won first prize. There is a Dorothy C Cox recorded as exhibiting in the thirties and forties including at the Royal Academy. The painting is mounted in the original gilt frame which is in good untouched condition. The whole has a great decorative look and is ready to hang.
