A fine oil on wooden panel still life by Piero Sansalvatore 1892-1955. The work shows a large green glass vase filled with dark red, or copper coloured flowers, possibly marigolds. The technique is wonderfully free and energetic with use of thick impasto paint applied with a palette knife. The work is in excellent condition and has been professionally cleaned. The frame is the original and is painted with a slight silvered finish, it is likely it was reused and adapted by the artist. The piece is signed and dated along the junction of the table and wall, inscribed directly into the paint, ‘P Sansalvatore 1950’. Piero Sansalvatore 1892 to 1955 was an artist, musician, and writer, born in Turin, Italy. In 1930 he visited London for an exhibition of his paintings at the Claridge Gallery and remained in England eventually becoming a naturalised English citizen.
