A painting in stunning jewel colours depicting two Tahitian women. Reminiscent of Gauguin and Kees van Dongen, the painting has its very individual and personal sensibility and intensity - magnified by one of the women's extraordinary eyes.

Dating from the 1940s, it is a work by the French artist Paul Mondain, who at the time signed his art "Mont d'Ain"

Mondain was not only a painter, but also a highly reputed psychiatrist, ceramicist and cellist. Active in the resistance movement during WW2, he was close to personalities such as the "Father of Europe" Jean Moulin, artist Max Jacob and writer Céline, who often mentioned Mondain in his letters.

Signed at the lower left, our the oil on hardboard by Mondain measures 54 x 46 cm. The overall framed size is 75 x 67 cm
