Depicting a bouquet of flowers in a vase next to two apples, all placed on a white tablecloth. School of Paris dated on the back 1925 and signed R. Maguet lower right.
Richard Maguet, born in Amiens, was a post impressionist painter of landscape, figures and flowers. He was a pupil of Albert Rose and Berthold Mahn in Paris when he arrived there at the age of 16. He exhibited at the Salons des Indépendants and d’Automne from 1921.
Richard Maguet, mobilised in the war, died under bombing on 16 June1940 in Sully-sur-Loire. Camus published a book ‘Richard Maguet (1896-1940)’ to pay tribute to him in 1949.
