A very interesting and decorative set of four landscape paintings representing the seasons. The four are all quite naļve in style with a charming simplicity and decorative appeal that is heightened by the four amazingly still being together. Spring is represented by a river landscape with fresh green leaves on the trees. Summer is depicted with a harvested field, and man gathering firewood. The scene for Autumn is depicted with a ploughed field and leaves turning brown. Winter is a snowy landscape with figures walking home. The paintings are signed and dated ‘D.Waller 1913’ the artist is not recorded and is almost certainly a talented amateur or journeyman who set out to create this series either for themselves or as a local commission. The works all retain the original simple gilt frames which are in good untouched conditions. The paintings have been professionally cleaned and small minor restoration made.
