A dynamic surrealist composition depicting behooded and beshawled woman on a latin village street. There is a fascinating juxtaposition between the modernity of the painting and the rurality of the setting.

Painted in oils on a French artist's panel, the work dates from the 1940s or early 1950s. It is signed only with the artist's first name "Matthieu", and I have not been able to identify the artist. The artwork is presented in a luxurious lacquered frame by Paris master framers Delf, with the overall framed size being 53 x 43 cm.
