A wonderfully luminous and fresh landscape. A subtle degree of abstraction gives us a sense of that blurred shimmering effect of warm air. French in origin, the painting was likely conceived in the South of France, perhaps in the region of the Gard, the Luberon or the Dordogne.

Signed "Montagne" at the lower right, it may be a work by Post Impressionist Louis Agricol Montagné (1879-1960), who had studied with Paul Sain and Corman, and who later became keeper of the Museum of Villeneuve-les-Avignon.

An oil on board measuring 54 x 73 cm, the overall size including its original frame is 68 x 87 cm.
