Description

Rare Grand Tour late 19th century German patinated black 'bronzed' finish terracotta high relief wall plaque depicting St. Peter's Basilica and Piazza in Rome with the inscription 'ROMA PIAZZA di S: PIETRO e BASILICA VATICANA'. The black reverse stamped 'JM' with an indecipherable symbol which looks like a V and probably denotes the date of production and the number '5150' and a '1' for Johann Maresch and making it post 1863. Probably produced at the Baehr and Maresch factory in Aussig an der Elbe sometime between 1863-1890.
