At Seal Chart, Sevenoaks, Oil Painting by Albert Starling

A charming oil on board depicting a scene at Seal Chart, Sevenoaks, Kent, by Albert Starling. A beautiful scene composed as a view through pine trees to a small cottage in the distance. The technique is free and confident with a softness and hazy feel. Almost certainly painted plein air it beautifully depicts the early morning summer colours and atmosphere. The work is signed to the lower right ‘Albert Starling’ who was a well-known and regarded artist, he exhibited between 1880-1913 in various subjects and very widely. He had 16 works at the Royal Academy and 28 at the Royal Academy of Arts Birmingham and also exhibited at every other major gallery. The painting is framed in a Victorian period gilt frame with original gilding which is in good condition with some minor restoration. The work itself has been professionally cleaned and is in excellent condition. The whole is a great example of Late Victorian landscape art and is ready to hang. C.1900.
