Let's start the year with colour!

Depicting multi hued trees under an azure sky with dusty pink earth in the foreground, this striking landscape is definitely in a league of its own. Painted with thick impasto, its colours are almost hypnotic. A truly Fauve work and extremely modern for its time, it is astonishing to think that was painted in the 1910s. French in origin, it is dedicated to its first owner at the lower left "Souvenir affectueux", indistinctly signed and dated 191(?). I have unfortunately not been able to decipher the artist's name.

Measuring 50 x 61 cm, the artwork is presented in its original wood carved and gilded frame. The overall framed size is 68 x 79 cm. Minor losses to the gilding of the frame, noticeable but stable craquelure and wear to oil and canvas due to the impasto.
