George Cattermole R.I. Large Watercolour ''The Death of Prince Rupert''
This is a beautiful and large watercolour by George Cattermole R.I. titled ''The Death of Prince Rupert''
The scene depicts prince Rupert being killed on the battlefield in the English civil war (1642-1651) war
between the royalist and the parliamentarian forces.
George Cattermole R.I. 1800 - 1868 was a British painter and illustrator, chiefly in watercolours.
The watercolour is in it''s original glass gilt frame and never been opened.
At the back of the frame there is a old Victorian description of the battle and death of prince Rupert.
The watercolour is in need of attention, as the back has never been opened due to time the glass has
created some dirt inside.
As we are no restorers we will leave this to the experts.
Most of the paintings and watercolours we have listed and still to be listed in time, are coming from one large private collection.
