A symphony of bright blue interspersed with reflections of moored ships in near white. This is bliss, cold enough for a light coat, yet refreshingly crisp. The port rumbles with the sound of background industry - a steamboat, perhaps for passengers, is eager to move. While another steamer, with two masts, gently glides into dock. A drayman readies the pumps.

This mid-century harbour scene by Robert Panitzsch (1879-1949) is captured with an effortless style and a blend of tranquil tones. He enjoyed this place and painted it often, particularly towards the end of his life. His own walls carried examples of his love for the sea.
