FAQs

Nineteenth-century British watercolours often focused on naturalistic depictions of the countryside, rivers, and coastal scenes, utilising transparent washes to capture atmospheric light and weather conditions.

Artists during this period typically utilised gum arabic-based watercolours on heavy rag paper or watercolour board, frequently housed behind glass within gilt wood frames.

Authentication involves examining the paper texture for hand-made characteristics, inspecting the pigment composition for period-appropriate chemistry, and checking for period framing methods and maker marks.

Display the artwork on a neutral wall to let the tonal palette stand out, pairing it with traditional or transitional furnishings to create an atmosphere of curated historical depth.

To prevent fading and degradation, protect the artwork from direct sunlight, maintain stable relative humidity levels, and ensure it is framed with acid-free archival matting.
