Late Georgian Oil Painting Depicting Farmer and Animals

A great oil on canvas depicting a farmer watching his dog startle a bull. The painting is very confidently worked and the central figure of the bull particularly well observed. The painting is of a high standard and would have been by a very competent artist however no signature can be seen, though this is not unusual for this early work. The painting is in good condition having been professionally cleaned and stabilized, it does retain a typical light craquelure. The painting is framed in a much later Victorian frame which it has obviously been in from that time. The frame is in good untouched condition, with original gilding and a great worn look. The whole has the most wonderful country house look and is ready to hang. C.1820.
