A delightful oil on canvas still life depicting a display of hydrangeas. The painting is confidently worked in very thick impasto oils wonderfully handled to create each bloom. The painting is signed to the lower right Ira Englefield a modern British artist born 1912. I believe this is an early example of her work as later in her career she developed a considerably more abstract style. The painting is in excellent condition having been professionally cleaned and varnished. The work retains the original good quality gilt frame and the whole has the most dramatic and theatrical presence.
