Large C19th Italian Engraving of a Centaur

Magnificent early 19th century engraving of ‘Theseus Fighting a Centaur’ or ‘Teseo Vincitore De ‘Centauri’ and dedicated to the Duke of Lodi Francesco Melzi d'Eril whose coat of arms is displayed in between the inscription "A Francesco Melzi d'Eril Duca di Lodi".

Professionally framed with contrasting double mounts in London. The dimensions of the visible engraving are 55cm x 58.5cm.

Designed by Giovanni Tognoli 1786-1862.

Engraved by Pietro Bonato 1765/1775 - 1820/1827.

Sculpture by Antonio Canova 1757-1822.

The marble sculpture by Canova was made for the city of Milan, Italy.
