Prometheus Antiques has dated this piece to the Georgian era.
The work is of a high quality but looks to be unsigned. It has been professionally cleaned and some small holes repaired. The portrait is inscribed on the reverse: ‘Sussanna wife of Thomas Luck’. The portrait was originally a typical rectangular portrait shape and at a later date has been fitted to an oval stretcher and framed in an oval frame. The framing is Victorian in date but in a much earlier style. The frame is carved wood and of great quality with deep elaborate carving. The gilding is later overpainted and that has a good worn look. The whole has a great period country house look and dramatic impact, it is ready to hang. C.1790.
Overall sizes in inches including frame: 33 by 38 ½
