A fine quality miniature oil portrait on an oak panel. The painting is beautifully detailed and must be by a capable hand. The work is most likely to be a copy of an old master portrait, probably Rembrandt. The miniature is not signed though this is not usual for this type of work. The portrait retains the original gilt frame, there is a wonderful sanded gilt slip mount with a simple moulded outer frame. The frame has a worn original gilt finish and does have some minor old repairs. The whole is in good condition and ready to hang with a perfect period look.
