Mansion House Antiques & Fine Art has dated this piece to the 1920s.
Little is known of his early life although Wilfred Knox had worked as an engineer and served in the Royal Flying Corps during the First World War. He painted under contract for Frost and Reed but much of his work was painted for a local Birmingham dealer under the pseudonym of A. D. Bell.
The subjects were mostly clipper ships, harbour scenes and landscapes with views in the West Country, Scotland, Ireland and Venice. Wilfrid Knox died on 30th October 1966 at the age of 82.
This fine example on offer is one of his rare versions in oil paint,and is of the upmost top quality in finishing,depicting the sun setting in the distance.
Amazingly realistic ocean waves and full of life.
He more often than not painted tiny watercolours
and these are often sold in the price range of £400-600 pounds

The frame is a beautiful swept plaster and gilt original example,and is in lovely condition.
There is a label on the verso,detailing the artists name,title of painting and canvas size,and all very original back and front.
The overall condition is excellent ,with no damage or marks evident at all,making this painting a good example for investment.
