Quiet Street Antiques of Bath has dated this piece to the 19th Century.
A derelict castle stands above them and to their left, with a lake or river in the distance with mountains further behind. The Victorian style of painting and the clothes worn by the figures makes it possible that this painting was painted by an English painter on their travels, making the scene most likely a continental (Spanish/Portuguese?) one.

Condition: Tha painting is in fairly good condition with the beginnings of a little cracking. There is no paint missing. It would benefit from a clean. The frame is in good condition, but there is nothing on the back to indicate either the name of the painter, the date it was painted, or indeed whether the frame is original to the painting.
Unsigned.
Date: c.1820-40
Frame Dimensions: W: 17 inches x H: 14 inches (43 x 35 cm)
