A fine oil on canvas cottage scene signed L.Richards a pseudonym of the artist Daniel Sherin. The landscape is that of the quintessential English thatched cottage, nestled next to a lane with a figure feeding chickens under the bluest of skies. The technique is superbly confident with a broad use of the brush and wonderful handling of colour. The whole is in excellent condition, having been professionally cleaned and a pinprick hole repaired. The work is signed to the lower right of the canvas ‘L.Richards’ this was a pseudonym of the highly regarded artist Daniel Sherin (1868-1940). Daniel Sherin was an English painter best known for his depictions of landscapes, maritime scenes, and the countryside of Norfolk and Suffolk. His work is highly detailed, describing objects such as ships and cattle accurately while maintaining a sense of light and atmosphere.
