Description

A charming 19th-century alpine landscape by German painter, Emil Von Ernst (1817-1905). It depicts a beautiful old watermill tucked away in dense woodland with a stream cutting its way through rocks. Two figures are standing by the water’s edge while two more are silhouetted by the mill.

Von Ernst lived in Dusseldorf and is known to have exhibited at the Berlin Academy.

The painting is signed in the lower right and housed within a good later frame.

Overall size: 14” x 11½” / 35cm x 29cm

Year of creation: c. 1880

Provenance: Denmark

Condition: Very presentable. Frame with a little age-related wear.
