Reverse Painted on Glass Silhouette

A charming and interesting silhouette reverse painted on glass. The scene depicted is that of travellers on the road from York to Doncaster. The horses and trap are beautifully observed and the detail quite lovely particularly the dog chasing behind. The painting is in good condition with no lifting, though there does seem to be some loss at the middle bottom. The piece is in the original bird’s eye maple frame which is in great condition with a wonderful colour and patina. The whole has a great period look and is ready to hang. C.1840.
