A sensuous swirling interior scene depicting a lady and her housekeeper by artist, Hubert Heissat (1880-1911).

It’s a masterclass in expression with every angle softened and each curve reiterating femininity. Note how the female form is echoed throughout the room - particularly in the chair, table, and vase. It’s a work that speaks of sexuality - the artist’s attempt at capturing a mood.

The lady has turned to face us with breasts fully exposed and fingers flirtatiously running through her hair. She's pre-occupied - perhaps preparing herself for the evening ahead.

Hubert Heissat trained at the École Régionale des Beaux-Arts in Amiens and later at the Académie Julian in Paris. He worked in a similar style to the post-impressionists who used colour and form to express an emotion rather than simply render a likeness. During his short lifetime, he exhibited at many salons including at the Société Nationale des Beaux-Arts.

The painting is signed in the lower right and bears an exhibition label in the lower left.
