Fine Still Life Oil Painting by Edward Adams

A fine quality still life oil painting of apples and grapes by Edward Adams. The work is beautifully done and comparable to the best of the Victorian period. The painting is signed to the lower right and dated 1895. Edward Adams is most well known as a very capable marine artist of the late nineteenth century and the early twentieth thus this is an unusual subject for him. There is a label on the reverse reading ‘Lucie Adams Aug 27th 1912’ and I suspect the painting was a family piece that was gifted by the artist to a female relative. The painting is in excellent untouched condition with only a very slight craquelure in places. The gilt frame is the original, in excellent condition and has the most wonderful undisturbed gilding. The whole really is an excellent example of still life and is ready to hang.
