Oil Painting of Cattle by Frederick E. Valter

A fine oil on canvas depicting a group of cattle in landscape setting with pollard willows in the background. The painting is wonderfully detailed with the animals perfectly oberved as would be expected from this specialist animal painter. The work is in great untouched condition and is signed to the lower right. The gilt frame is the original it has had some restoration with some of the moulding later replacements. Frederick E. Valter was a rustic and animal painter mainly specialising in sheep and cows in the romantic fashion. He exhibited between 1882-1921 mainly in Birmingham where he lived but also at the Royal Society of British Artists, Liverpool and Manchester. The work has a great period country house look and is ready to hang. C.1900.
