William P. Rogers (fl. 1846-1872): A gilt framed oil painting on panel, depicting a shoreline fishing scene.

A well presented, atmospheric oil painting by William P. Rogers. A shoreline harbour scene with fishermen seen tending to their boats and to their catch on a blustery day. Central to the painting is a large fishermans shack, raised on stilts, with timber cladding.

Signed to the lower right-hand corner.

Dated: c.1860.

Presented in a good gilt frame with fluted cove.

The Artist: William P. Rogers (fl. 1846 - 1872) was a 19th century Irish born artist who is best known for his landscapes and (as in this case) coastal subjects. He studied at the Royal Dublin Society's Drawing School, winning prizes in 1850 and 1852. He exhibited at the Royal Hibernian Academy in Dublin between 1848-1872, mostly scenes of Wicklow and Wexford landmarks, including two scenes in the County of Wexford.
