Fine Georgian Oil Portrait Of A Gentleman

Status: This item has been sold
Sold by: Prometheus Antiques

A fine quality English eighteenth-century portrait of a gentleman. The portrait is typical for the period with the sitter wearing a beautiful grey jacket with blue velvet collar and embroidered waistcoat. The work does not appear to be signed which is not unusual for this period, however the quality of the painting is self-evident. The work has been lined probably in the nineteenth century and is in good untouched country house condition with the odd minor blemish. The gilded frame is very good quality and in original condition, it dates to the nineteenth century. I would think the portrait was lined and reframed in the current frame in the nineteenth century. The whole has a wonderful English country house look and is ready to hang. C.1760.
