Two Early 19th-century French School Fashion Drawings

Description

This beautiful pair of French watercolours from circa 1810 depict figures dressed in the latest fashion. They’re titled ‘robe de satin garnie de fourrure’ and ‘chapeau de paille blanche, robe de Marceline’ or ‘fur trimmed satin dress’ and ‘white straw hat, Marceline dress’.

The figures are both standing with back turned to draw emphasis to the outfits. The delicately pointed shoes are a particularly nice touch.

Fashion plates are fairly common but it’s rare to find original drawings of this nature.

Inscribed, framed and glazed. Previously with Baskett & Day, a notable London-based dealer.

Overall size: 10” x 14” / 26cm x 36cm

Year of creation: c. 1810

Condition: Artwork presents well. Frames with some wear.
