English wheel barometer
JEREMIAH WATKINS
1799 – 1819
In mahogany & satinwood C.1810. Made by the famous
maker JEREMIAH WATKINS. He was instrument maker
to The Duke of York, The Duke of Clarence and
The East India Company.
This barometer has a shape I’ve never seen before,
in fact I don’t know how to describe it other than it
is very pleasing!
Watkins made many different kinds of barometer,
including ‘Angle Barometers’.
This particular barometer has very fine mahogany and
generous satinwood edging. The concave brass bezel containing a
fabulous silvered brass dial and very flamboyant
engraved scroll work around ‘change’ and a very
prominent scroll signed WATKINS,CHARING CROSS, LONDON.
Very fine blued steel moon & diamond hand pointer &
matching brass register hand.
All in very good original condition.
With restored top.
