A very large oil on canvas, ‘Swan Maidens’ by Henri Farre (1871-1934) circa 1910.

Born in France in 1871, Henri Farré trained in Paris and was a successful portrait painter in Buenos Aires before returning to France in 1914 to serve in the war effort by painting the Air Force. Known predominantly as a ‘world war artist’, painting observations and experiences from the air as a pilot; such compositions as the Swan Maidens are lesser known, however similar examples have been exhibited in Paris before the start of the war. This particular example, signed lower right and dated 1909.
