This enchanting 19th-century landscape by Swedish artist Erik Abrahamson (1871-1907) evokes the serenity of a moonlit river. The water is tranquil and the silence conspicious.

Can you imagine how he felt perched by the water’s edge as he considered the central channel of light? He’s carefully observed the gentle ripples of water reflecting graduated orange tones, then blending to blue.
