Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.
Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.
Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

A Chinese barrel stool, traditionally known as a zuodun or drum stool, is a rounded seat or stand featuring a central bulbous profile. Originating in traditional Chinese architecture and garden design, these pieces often feature openwork construction, carved studs resembling drum fasteners, and flat or marble-inset tops.

Traditional 19th-century Chinese barrel stands were primarily constructed from dense tropical hardwoods such as Hongmu (rosewood) or Zitan. Tops frequently feature inset slabs of polished white or variegated marble, held together using mortise-and-tenon joinery without metal fasteners.

Authentic 19th-century Hongmu furniture displays characteristic heavy wood density, dark reddish-brown grain patterns, and hand-cut joinery. Marks of age include natural wood shrinkage around marble insets, soft patination on hand-carved surfaces, and signs of hand-tooling rather than machine sanding.

A Chinese barrel stool functions as a versatile accent piece, serving as an occasional side table beside an armchair, a plant stand in a window alcove, or a sculptural low table in an eclectic living room setting.

Maintain antique Hongmu furniture by dusting with a dry microfiber cloth and applying beeswax polish sparingly once or twice a year. Keep the piece away from direct heat sources and extreme humidity fluctuations to prevent wood shrinkage or marble staining.
