Antique Mahal Carpet

1900 - 1920
Description

A beautiful oversize antique Mahal carpet with a lovely open all design and woven with the rare white background, most Mahal or Sultanabad carpets where woven using richer deeper blues and reds as the main field colour.  The all over pattern of vines and stylised floral motifs is really beautiful and hand-woven with natural dyes.  This carpet dates from around circa 1900 with the condition being very good indeed, minimal lower areas of pile.  A very decorative antique carpet in a large size and ideal for any room with our excellent underlay.
