Exceptional Palace Size Antique Sultanabad Carpet, Circa 1880, 5.65m X 3.90m

Description

Woven in the famous Sultanabad workshops of West Persia in the last quarter of the 19th century, this is a beautiful carpet, with presence. The colours are subtle and very well balanced, and the scale of the drawing is refined. The ivory medallion appears to be floating above the sapphire field, while the terracotta border frames the whole composition superbly. This is a highly decorative large Persian carpet. It is thin, fine and folds like paper. The pile has an even wear, and a very alluring patina. Professionally cleaned and ready for immediate use.
