Description

This beautiful 19th-century silk print is after a work by Albert Joseph Moore (1841-1893) and depicts two ‘maidens’ draped in delicately embroidered robes. It’s a rare find and signed by Moore in the lower left.

Moore was an important figure in the ‘aesthetic movement’, which advocated ‘art for art’s sake’ and the pursuit of beauty. It was a reaction to the restrictive nature of Victorian society - a visual explosion against the starched collars of rigid expectations.

The print was published by Dowdenwell and Dowdenwell, London in 1884.

Signed in pencil, framed and glazed.
