A twisting cart track passes under two rugged oaks - each leaning with nature’s toil. Swirls of impasto denote grazing cattle - a few choice marks and daubs of white. Above them, a window to bring balance and interest. Bright blue sky cutting between branches. While over on the left, a view across a lake. A distant dwelling. A longer horizon.
The landscape speaks to us, it’s energetic, informal and lyrical. Note the suggestion of a breeze, the movement of the clouds, and the uneven surface. Pedersen isn’t painting perfection, he’s capturing nature’s strength in a beautiful fashion. The scenery adapts to the shifting forces, the ever-pressing effects of time itself. It’s an appropriate metaphor for a man in his 60s. An accomplished artist with nothing to prove.
The reverse bears an exhibition label.
Signed/dated lower left and framed.
