Fairground Oil Painting by Evelin Winifred Aston 1891-1975

A charming and detailed oil on card fairground scene by Evelin Winifred Aston (1891-1975). The work is wonderfully detailed with people and attractions packed together giving a great feel of energy. The painting is undisturbed under glass and so remains in great untouched condition. The frame is also the original with a gilded bronze finish. Evelin Winifred Aston was born in Birmingham, after a private education Aston studied arts and crafts at the Birmingham School of Art. She exhibited works at the Paris Salon, at the Royal Scottish Academy in 1934, the Society of Women Artists throughout the 1930s and also with the Royal Birmingham Society of Artists. Aston was a frequent exhibitor with, and elected member of, the Birmingham Art Circle. Her Paris Salon exhibit, the sculpture The Adoration, was highlighted in a number of French art journals. This piece would date to the 1940’s and has a great period look and a wonderful sense of fun.
