Fine Victorian Marine Oil Painting of Gibraltar

A fine quality oil on canvas of ships in the sea around Gibraltar. The scene shows a multitude of vessels in the choppy waters off Gibraltar, with the imposing rock very much the centre of the composition. The piece in in excellent condition with no restoration. The work is not signed but has been tentatively attributed in the past to William Stuart (Fl.1848-1867). The painting is framed in a period gilt frame which is in good antique condition with some repairs. The frame is probably not the original but works very well with the piece. The whole has a great period look, is of a very desirable subject and is ready to hang. C.1850.
