Victorian Marine Oil Painting by Edward Adams

A fine oil on canvas shipping scene by Edward Adams. The view is of various ships on calm waters at dusk. The detail of the work is superb, each ship beautifully observed and the tranquillity of the time of day and the still water wonderfully captured. The work is signed and dated to the lower right: E Adams 1892. Edward Adams was a specialist in marine scenes at the end of the Victorian period and the beginning of the twentieth century. The painting has been professionally cleaned and is in excellent condition. The work retains the original gilt slip and has been mounted in a period gilt frame which shows slightly more of the slip at the top and bottom than the sides, however this does not distract from the framing as a whole. A wonderful example of Victorian marine painting and ready to hang.
