It’s classically inspired but rather than ruins, Copley Fielding gives us fishermen dragging their nets through the undulant mud. A rusted anchor, some wrecked driftwood, a chalky coastline - this is the England he loved and admired.
Copley Fielding was ours, a special talent that enriched the rugged British countryside with a sense of permanent tranquillity. While the industrial revolution was brimming with steam, he sought the calm mists of ancient valleys and headlands.
Signed in the lower left, dated, framed and glazed.
