Victorian Oil Painting of a Girl with Kitten

A fine quality oil on artist board depicting a girl cradling a kitten. The work is beautifully observed by a capable hand with excellent detail particularly in the figure. The work is signed to the lower left: Morrison and dated on the reverse very specifically to Saturday August 15th 1855. There were a few Morrisons painting at the time and it is difficult to assign the work to a specific artist, however the quality speaks for itself. The painting has been professionally cleaned and is in very good condition, it does have a small dint in the board from the back but it is not overly noticeable. The frame is most likely the original and of the period, it is in very good condition with some overgilding. The whole is a great example of this genre and is ready to hang.
