Victorian Horse Oil Painting by B.chichester

A charming oil on canvas painting of a horse by B.Chichester. The painting is typical of Victorian provincial horse portraiture with the animal standing in a landscape setting. The work is slightly unusual in that the horse is saddled and ready to ride. The quality of the work is very good and it is signed and dated by the artist: B.Chichester 1899. I cannot find a record of this artist but it is typical for these works that they were done by commercial artists travelling around, who didn’t exhibit. The painting has been professionally cleaned, it does have some very minor areas of old overpaint and a small hole repair. The work is framed in a later frame with a gilt interior, dark green lacquer centre and reeded ebonised outer section. The frame works very well with painting and the whole is ready to hang.
