Description

This brisk landscape sketch by French artist, Paul Désiré Trouillebert (1829-1900) depicts two birch trees before a farmhouse and distant woodland. It’s a study directly from nature by one of the foremost plein air painters of his generation.

Trouillebert was a ‘Barbizon School’ painter and created many of his works in the forest of Fontainebleau near the village of Barbizon. Along with his peers, he was one of the first to truly embrace painting outdoors.

The painting is housed within a later frame and glazed.

Overall size: 10½” x 12” / 20cm x 25cm

Year of creation: c. 1880

Condition: Overall very presentable. The work is on paper, attached to card and framed behind glass. Frame with some light wear.
