ANTIQUE #SA884538

Pair Of Eighteenth Century French Prints

Status: This item has been sold
Sold by: Prometheus Antiques

A pair of early French prints in wonderfully decorative frames. The pair show dramatic and varied scenes one of a shipwreck and the other of a traveller falling in a landscape setting. The arcadian landscape scene is by Nicolas de Launay (1739-1792) after Georges-Frederic Meyer and is titled La Chute Dangereuse meaning the dangerous fall. The shipwreck scene is by R Bertand after Joseph Vernet and titled Orage Impetuex, it is also dedicated to the King’s Architect. The prints are in good antique condition with some minor blemishes and creases etc. The prints are framed in matching frames although they are obviously of differing subjects. The frames have a great decorative appeal with a design of gilding contrasting with ebonised detail. The frames are not eighteenth century but late nineteenth. The pair have a great decorative impact and are ready to hang. C.1780.

Overall sizes in inches including frames, each: 18 ¾ by 14 ¾
