Oil Painting of Paris by Jules Ribeaucourt

A fine impressionist type view of Paris in oils on board by Jules Ribeaucourt 1866-1932. The seen is a view across the Seine dominated by barges in the foreground and a bridge in the background. The work is handled confidently in thick impasto oil using brush and palette knife. There is a title in pencil on the reverse somewhat illegible though the word Paris can be read. The painting is signed to the lower right ‘J Ribeaucourt’. Ribeaucort was born in Maubeuge, Nord Department of northern France in 1866. He was a student of Julian Gagliardini and exhibited at The Paris Salon, becoming a member of the society of French Artists in 1900 and at the salon of Independent Artists from 1907. In 1932 he won a silver medal at The Paris Salon. This piece is typical of his work both in subject with boats and water and in style. The painting is in excellent untouched condition and while probably not the original frame it is almost contemporary with the work and the two have been together for a long time. The frame has the unusual combination of a gilt edge, pine middle and linen covered inner, all are in good condition with the gilt outer edge having had some overpaint. A lovely example of French landscape painting in the impressionist manner and ready to hang. C.1930.
